Ever REALLY notice a standing ovation in a theater?
There’s always those first 5-10 people who stand up first, clapping wildly.
Then there’s those 100-200 people who stand up next & were simply waiting for those first few people to stand up to evidence that it’s “ok” to do so.
Then there are those 20-30 people who never wanted to stand up at all, but eventually do so because they now feel weird sitting down and are afraid they’re being judged by those standing around them who can see them sitting through all this.
And finally there are those 10-15 people who simply refuse because they wont be “made to” by those around them.
Which group are you in?
P.S. If you think this is about clapping while standing, you’re missing the point.
The Promise Of Leadership
Like it or not, there is an inherent and unspoken promise that comes along with being a leader.
It’s a promise that leader makes to those that they lead and those that relate to them as a leader.
It’s a promise that goes unspoken and unpracticed too often: Your impact matters.
As a leader, you are promising that your responsibility will be on not only the end goal, but also on the team that you travel there with, the impact of the journey, and the consequences of the goal itself that you leave in your wake.
The promise you make as a leader is that you will be fully responsible for and own the impact of your leadership, the team you lead and the result you have created.
